Summary
- A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I received my Medical Degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro School of Medicine. I did my internship at the Washington Hospital Center, an affiliated hospital to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I was then involved for one year in General and Ophthalmic Pathology at the University of Mississippi medical Center. At Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, I received my Residency Training in Ophthalmology and further pursued a Fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous.. I was then granted a Research Fellowship sponsored by the Research to Prevent Blindness Foundation, to advance my interest in the field of the Retina and Vitreous. I studied with Dr. Charles Casebeer, a pioneer in the surgical correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism, and I have performed numerous microscopic refractive surgical procedures.
