Summary
- I have had the privilege to work in biomedical research at academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotech companies for more than 20 years. My research work has been focused on DNA tumor viruses and their encoded oncogenes that are essential for viral replication and cell transformation. In addition, I have been a key contributor in the evaluation, clinical development phases I/II/III, and submission of NDA/MAA of different antiviral drugs for HIV and HCV in the US, Europe, Japan and China. More recently, I have been leading translational and clinical development teams programs of small molecules and biologics and their respective registration in rheumatology (autoimmune), gastroenterology, hepatology, neurology indications; and skin tissue/cell based therapies in the US, Europe and Japan. As part of my work in biopharmaceutical and biotech companies, I have also led the development of different in vitro molecular diagnostic assays for laboratory and companion diagnostics in drug development. Both, my academic and drug development research work has been published in more than 100 articles in peer reviewed journals and has received the recognition of research awards from the US National Institute of Health and private foundations.
