Rany El-Hawary MD MSc, FRCS(C)

Summary

• Dr. El-Hawary is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with the neuromuscular team at Boston Children’s Hospital and is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. He previously worked at IWK Health in Halifax, Canada as Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Associate Chief of Surgery. While in Halifax, he was a Professor with the Department of Surgery and had cross-appointments with the School of Biomedical Engineering and with the Division of Neurosurgery at Dalhousie University.
  
  Ron is currently on the Board of Directors of the Scoliosis Research Society and of the Pediatric Spine Foundation. He has been Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Orthopaedic Examination Committee and has been President of the Pediatric Spine Foundation, the Canadian Pediatric Orthopaedic Group, and was the Founding President of the Canadian Pediatric Spine Society. He is co-editor of 3rd edition of The Growing Spine Textbook.
  
  Dr. El-Hawary's education consisted of a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (1994), Bachelor of Science in Medicine (1998), and Medical Doctorate (1998) all from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery (2003) and his Master of Science in Medical Biophysics (2004) from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. He received further education as an Edwards Fellow in Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis Surgery at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas (2005). In 2006, he was chosen to be a Scoliosis Research Society Dawson Traveling Fellow and, in 2010, was selected to be a Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America European Traveling Fellow.
  
  Dr. El-Hawary grew up on Canada’s east coast and was privileged to work in Canada as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon for almost 20 years. It is now a unique opportunity for him to provide meaningful advances in surgical care and innovation to patients at Boston Children’s Hospital.
