Summary
- Dr. Richardson is a neuromuscular neurologist both board-certified in neuromuscular medicine and neurology with special certification in child neurology. He takes care of adults and children with genetic disorders of the peripheral nervous system across the lifespan is is avidly interested in providing patients access to genetic therapies. He acts as the Gillette Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic director and serves on the Minnesota Newborn Screen Advisory Committee. He created the Gillette Nusinersen Administration Program, which specializes in providing intrathecal therapies to dozens of patients with spinal muscular atrophy and Niemann-Pick type C via conventional lumbar punctures, fluoroscopic lumbar punctures, or via lumbar subcutaneous reservoirs via a wide range of sedations (no, minimal, moderate, and deep), including those with complex spines. He is hoping to expand intrathecal therapies to other diseases as these treatments are approved. Currently, he is engaged in research in SMA and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, often embracing expanded/managed access programs for medications pending FDA approval. Community and diversity matters. He is working with the Indian Health Board to afford neurologic services to the Native American community. Additionally, he performs electromyography (EMG) and intraoperative monitoring. He frequently finds himself gardening at night, collecting art, rehabilitating antiques, or devouring science fiction.
