Summary

  • Dr. John Tannyhill received his dental degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He then completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. After MGH, Dr. Tannyhill started Tannyhill Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Centennial, Colorado, where he practiced for fifteen years. He also served on the faculty of the OMFS training program at Denver Health Medical Center and the University of Colorado School of Dentistry during that time.

    While in Denver, he served as a team physician for the NBA Denver Nuggets, the NHL Colorado Avalanche, and USA Cycling, serving as the team physician at the 2012 and 2013 UCI Road World Championships in the Netherlands and Italy. After 15 years in Colorado, he returned to Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine as the OMFS Residency Program Director and Director of Education in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After six years at MGH /Harvard, he is now the OMFS Residency Program Director at Boston University and Boston Medical Center.

    Dr. Tannyhill’s primary clinical interests are reconstructive surgery, dental implant surgery, wisdom tooth removal, outpatient anesthesia, sleep apnea surgery and facial trauma. His research studies are focused on surgical education and simluation.
