- Pitou Devgon is a physician entrepreneur, prior healthcare venture capitalist and most recently was the co-founder of Velano Vascular, Inc. and inventor of their patented vascular device technology. He served in various C-level roles including President and Chief Medical Officer as the company grew to almost 40 employees, 70 hospital customers and an eventual acquisition by BD, which is one of the largest global medical technology companies, in 2021. He is an active angel investor and advisor to early-stage healthcare companies and regularly guest lectures at Wharton on healthcare entrepreneurship.
Velano’s corporate accolades over the years included being named #36 on Deloitte’s Fast 500 List in 2020, which ranks the country’s fastest growing technology companies. In 2019 Fast Company Magazine named Velano as part of the Top Ten Most Innovative Companies in Biotech and in 2018 the company was honored with a MedTech Breakthrough Award for best overall medical device solution.
Pitou originally came to Philadelphia for his residency in Internal Medicine at Penn. He practiced part-time for a decade as a hospitalist in the Medical ICU at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center while earning his MBA in Healthcare Management from Wharton, and then being part of the healthcare venture capital team at Safeguard Scientifics before co-founding Velano Vascular.
He holds a BA in biological psychology from the College of William & Mary, an MD from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
