Summary
- I am a practicing neurologist at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL with subspecialty training in movement disorders and behavioral neurology with a particular emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases, e.g., Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, etc. I work in the Mayo Clinic Florida Movement Laboratory including the Tremor Lab where I conduct movement electrophysiology studies to characterize various movements, such as tremors, and the Gait Lab where I conduct quantitative analyses of walking and balance to facilitate diagnosis of complex neurological diseases. In addition to diagnosing patients with a variety of neurological conditions, I provide a wide range of specialized treatments, such as deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin injections.
My research activities are broad. I am involved in the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (See more at https://dementiaoutreach.mayo.edu/about/mayo-clinic-adrc/). My primary research interests include leveraging advanced various technologies to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders with a particular emphasis on tremors and complex gait disorders. See my research at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/philip.tipton1/bibliography/public/.
I regularly educate medical students, residents, and fellows and currently serve as the Associate Program Director for the Mayo Clinic Florida Behavioral Neurology Fellowship (See more at https://college.mayo.edu/academics/residencies-and-fellowships/behavioral-neurology-fellowship-florida/). I am passionate about providing accurate medical information to the public and frequently give lectures both locally and abroad. I have generated a repository of YouTube videos and Podcast episodes to provide information to the general public about neurodegenerative diseases (See more at https://www.youtube.com/@PhilipTiptonMD and https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/long-live-the-brains/id1492601739?ls=1).
