Summary

  • A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr. Rothberg earned his medical degree from Tulane University of Louisiana. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. During residency, he conducted original research at the Naval Medical Research Center and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

    Following his training, Dr. Rothberg was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. In this role, he served as an attending general surgeon, department head of the General Surgery Department, and chairman of the Provider Wellness Committee. He deployed in 2019 with the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response AFRICOM as a general surgeon for an austere mobile surgical team. In 2021, he deployed to Djibouti, Africa, as a general surgeon for an expeditionary surgical facility in support of Operation Al Qaeda – East Africa and served as the theater-wide Trauma Medical Director for US Africa Command. Just before separating from active duty in 2023, he completed a busy deployment to Erbil, Iraq, with Expeditionary Medical Unit – Roto 14 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and served as a general surgeon and trauma director.

    Dr. Rothberg joins the board-certified surgeons and highly skilled staff of North Florida Surgeons to provide general and minimally invasive surgery, foregut and colorectal surgery, and surgical oncology care. He is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He holds an assistant professorship at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

    Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Rothberg enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. He is an ardent distance-running enthusiast and serves as a Commander in the Navy Reserves.
