Summary
- Dr. Gomez received his MD degree from Universidad CES (Medellin, Colombia) in 2006. After completing a year of rural social service providing health services to a small town in the heart of the country's coffee zone, he joined his father's urology practice working as his surgical assistant. Additionally, Dr. Gomez taught the physiology course to first-year medical students of his Alma Mater for a year and a half.
In the fall of 2009, Dr. Gomez joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) as a research assistant for the Department of Surgery. He then completed a general surgery residency at UTHSCSA from July 2010 to June 2017. During his residency, he completed a two-year research fellowship with a Master’s of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI), where he was responsible for initiating, implementing, monitoring, and publishing various clinical research projects. Well-respected by all his peers, Dr. Gomez was elected as one of two administrative chief residents for his program.
Dr. Gomez completed an Advanced GI MIS Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He has been practicing general and laparoscopic surgery in Bangor, Maine at St Joseph Hospital. He is happily married and enjoys life with his wife, two daughters, and their dog. In his leisure time, Dr. Gomez is a 'camera aficionado' who enjoys outdoor photography, outdoor hiking, and cooking anything from Brisket to Lobster
