Summary

  • I am Pediatric Cardiologist with over 25 years of clinical and research experience using of cardiac imaging techniques to promote the health of children, fetuses and young adults afflicted with CHD. I have developed expertise/experience with Ebstein malformation and those with functionally single ventricular circulations, especially HLHS. I have been fortunate to learn from and collaborate with many distinguished physicians and surgeons while caring for patients at the Mayo Clinic. In addition, our team within the Mayo Clinic's Wanek Family Program ofr HLHS is coordinating a world's first effort to bring new knowledge and treatments, including autologous human stem cell therapy out of the lab and into standard patient care. My interests span clinical and surgical congenital cardiology, but are centered primarily on using echocardiographic modalities to diagnose and manage patients with CHD. (2- and 3-dimensional echo, Doppler echo, tissue tracking, fetal and transesophageal echo). I have a long standing interest in the non-invasive assessment of cardiac function in children and those afflicted with complex congenital cardiac defects. I have a long standing interest in education as well. In addition to training Pediatric Cardiology fellows, I have directed the longest running CME course focused on Echocardiography in CHD for the over 25 years.
