- Patrick Hanaway, M.D. is a board-certified family physician. He has spoken across the U.S. and internationally on the subjects of nutrition, gastroenterology, endocrinology and systems (holistic) medicine in over 1000 CME accredited clinician workshops. Dr. Hanaway has expertise in the clinical application of nutritional biochemistry, with emphases on digestive disease, nutrition and wellness. He offers systems-medicine consultations for patients, physicians and corporations to improve overall health status.
Dr. Hanaway currently works as faculty for the Institute for Functional Medicine – teaching around the world and training new faculty members. In 2014, Dr. Hanaway served as the first Medical Director of the Center for Functional Medicine @ Cleveland Clinic from 2014-2017, which grew from 2 - 20 clinicians in just three years. In 2019 he completed his term as the Research Director at the Center for Functional Medicine, with a focus on cost-of-care and patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs).
Dr. Hanaway is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Nutrition. He is Past-President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, served on the Executive Committee of the American Board of Integrative Medicine, and he is on the Editorial Boards of multiple journals in integrative medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin in Molecular Biology and earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Washington University School of Medicine.
In addition, in 2009 Dr. Hanaway was initiated as a traditional healer by the Wixárika (Huichol) people of the western Sierra Madres in Mexico and includes this medicine in his clinical practice.
