Summary

• I am the Chair of the Dept. of Fam Medicine at the UCLA Sch of Med. and Vice Chair of the LA County Public Health Commission. I am boarded in Fam Med & Prev. Med & trained in FM at Cook County Hosp in Chicago under Dr. Jorge Prieto. Later I spent 7 yrs as Assoc. Chair of the Dept of FM at Cook. Previously I served as FM residency director at Brown University and LA County Harbor UCLA Medical Ctr. After completing residency training i worked at a United Farmworkers (UFW) clinic in Coachella and a migrant health center on the Mexican border in Brawley Calif. My central interest is the provision of high quality, cost effective, accessible care to underserved populations & URMs in remote rural areas and urban central cities; it is my belief that this can best be accomplished by linking graduate medical education programs to those underserved communities. I have served on the board of the Charles R Drew University and the Drew-UCLA program in medicine in South Central LA for the past 14 years .
