Summary

• I am an Orthopaedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. I hold 18 patents, and have a deep interest in the biomechanics of the spine. The MAGEC magnetically controlled growth rod is my most successful patent. Over the next few months I plan to publish various power point presentations on things that I have learned about spinal mechanics on this site.
  
  Some these topics will be:
  1. The Biomechanics of Adolescent Scoliosis (which has been long known and was described in the 1830s).
  
  2. The function of the lumbar facet.
  
  3. The role of the disk and the facet in adult deformity or scoliosis.
  
  4. The function of the lumbar disk (One of the questions that started my interest in spinal mechanics was, "Why is there normal articular cartilage on the vertebral body endplates." It took me years to answer that question).
  
  5. The treatment of adolescent scoliosis with a simple and very safe ligament release.
