  I currently work as an emergency room physician at Kohala Hospital, a critical access hospital, on the far north end of the Big Island in Kapa'au, Hawaii. I also have a small private practice, Pono Medicine, primarily treating patients with chronic pain or general medical issues. I also provide end-of-life services for patients seeking Medical Aid-in-Dying and provide consultations for medical cannabis with the intention of providing expert consultation in both the risks (addiction) and benefits (pain and palliative care). I draw upon my many years of clinical experience in treating pain with my knowledge and expertise in pharmacology, physiology, and neurobiology, and use that information to help patients, as well as other healthcare professionals, better understand how and when cannabis may be effectively used as a medication.
