As an international leader in point-of-care ultrasound, Dr. Soni has collaborated with physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers of different specialties to develop training curricula in point-of-care ultrasound around the globe. He is well known for teaching point-of-care ultrasound nationally and internationally. He is the visionary and chief editor of the book, Point-of-Care Ultrasound, that was awarded the 2015 British Medical Association’s President’s Choice Award. The second edition was released in 2019, and over 30,000 copies of the book have been distributed worldwide in English, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Korean.

    He has led implementation of point-of-care ultrasound for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) since 2014. From 2016 to 2021, he directed the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Training Program with the VA’s Simulation Learning Education and Research Network (SimLEARN). He was awarded a VA Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) grant to evaluate the implementation of point-of-care ultrasound use in the VA healthcare system (2016-2024) and led the VA's Point-of-care Ultrasound Patient Safety Center of Inquiry form 2021 to 2024. Currently, he continues to be active in the VA system nationally in point-of-care ultrasound implementation and leads several ultrasound educational initiatives, including a large continuing medical education course (www.pocussa.org).
