- Nikki Wilborn, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, was born and raised in Victoria, Texas. Nikki graduated from the Victoria College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program in 2009. Nikki worked in different settings as a Registered Nurse (RN), including pediatric home health, briefly and in a Level I-IIIA neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and well-newborn nursery from 2009 through 2015. Nikki graduated from Vanderbilt University Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program within the neonatal specialty in 2017. After graduating in 2017, Nikki worked briefly as an ADN interim clinical instructor at Victoria College.
Transitioning into the neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) role in January 2018 at The Woman's Hospital of Texas (TWHT) with Pediatrix medical group, Nikki has now been active in a 146-bed Level IV NICU with approximately 10,000-12,000 deliveries per year on average. Detailed experiences as an NNP have included applying advanced knowledge and clinical expertise for optimal patient outcomes, critical decision making, and conflict management skills in the care of the critically ill neonate that including ventilator management, total body cooling, pre, and post-surgical patients, delivery attendance, resuscitation, stabilization of the neonate, daily management, and discharge management. Maintains procedural competence, including peripheral arterial line placement, lumbar punctures, intubations, PICC line placement, and thoracentesis. The responsibilities of an NNP include collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including neonatologists, NNPs, RNs, respiratory therapists (RT), dieticians, pharmacists, and multiple sub-specialists. Nikki currently performs examinations, planning, implementation, and evaluation to formulate clinical decisions for patients and their families. She remains an active participant in educational opportunities for staff's professional development.
