Dr. Preschel was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and is fluent in Spanish and English. He received his Medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela and was awarded an educational grant from Venezuela’s Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation in order to pursue post-graduate specialty training in the United States.
Being a native Latin American with European ancestry, Dr. Preschel has a distinctive educational and cultural background. He served his Internal Medicine internship at The Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. While living in New York, he completed a research fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology, followed by his Ophthalmology residency at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In addition, Dr. Preschel achieved sub-specialty fellowship training in Cornea, Refractive Surgery and Glaucoma at the Phillips Eye Institute in Minneapolis, under the mentorship of an internationally renowned team of specialists at Minnesota Eye Consultants. After completing his training in the United States, Dr. Preschel returned to Venezuela in 1998 to work as an attending surgeon at the training program of the Venezuelan Society for the Advancement of Ophthalmology, where he was actively involved in the post-graduate training of residents and fellow ophthalmologists.
Dr. Preschel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of various ophthalmic societies.
Nelson Preschel and his family have been part of the south Florida community for many years. His caring personality, multicultural backgound and his vast experience in ophthalmology allow him to provide his patients with a unique combination of professional and personalized eye care.
