Summary
- Description of Professional Responsibilities Post Residency
For the past 10 years, I have been working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Dhahran Saudi Arabia for the worlds largest oil company in their company hospital. This was formerly known as the Saudi Arabian Medical Services Organization and is now run by Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare. In my Role with the company, I averaged 3 inpatients a day, did consults, performed ECT, and saw 60 outpatients a week.
My wife and I have moved home to be nearer to our family. I will begin work in a private practice setting with Flying Horse Medical Center on a part-time basis. I will be working as an independent contractor and seeing patients on a cash only basis.
Before working overseas, I had the privilege of assisting in the launch of a clinic in St. Joseph Michigan for the privately insured. This was funded and launched by Berrien Mental Health Authority as a way to secure matching dollars to fund the uninsured populations in the county. My role was as the sole practitioner on a 50% basis for the first 18 months. The other 50% of my time is dedicated to working with the Medicaid and the uninsured population in our community. I recruited, interviewed, and recommended we hire key personnel including an office manager, a transcriptionist, secretarial staff, social workers, psychologists, and both child and adult psychiatrists.
In my role as a psychiatrist we successfully helped 500 privately insured patients in the first year. We also launched a second site in Niles Michigan. We assisted over 2100 individuals in the four years since the clinics were launched. In this setting, I treated adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
While working at Madison Center in South Bend Indiana, I saw adults and geriatric patients and covered the alcohol detox units on weekends. I cared for patients in nursing homes as a part of my responsibility. I had the opportunity to serve in this capacity for 19 months
