  • Dr. Monica Kraft is an internationally recognized physician-scientist renowned for her expertise in clinical and translational research concerning airway disease. Dr. Kraft joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in July 2022 as System Chair of the Department of Medicine. She previously held a position as Chair at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, where she also held a Professorship and was the Robert and Irene Flinn Endowed Chair in Medicine. Prior to her tenure at the University of Arizona, she served as the Charles Johnson Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Kraft earned her MD degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and completed her residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Following this, she pursued a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in patient care, teaching, and extensive research, particularly in adult asthma and COPD. Her research interests include innate immune dysfunction, inflammation, infection in asthma, and personalized approaches to therapy. Dr. Kraft has an impressive publication record in esteemed journals and has received over 25 years of continuous funding from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Lung Association. She also had a notable H index of 83. She has been recognized with several awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, a Distiguished Career award from the American Thoracic Society and election to American Association of Physicians. Additionally, she co-founded RaeSedo, Inc., where she serves as Chief Medical Officer, which focuses on therapies for inflammatory lung diseases.
