Summary
- Dr. Whitehead hails from the rural Florida Panhandle town of Cottondale as a 6th generation Floridian. He began his higher education at Chipola College and would go on to graduate from the Florida State University with Honors, majoring in Classics and a minor in Chemistry. While at FSU Dr. Whitehead defended his thesis of the history of malaria in the ancient world as part of FSU’s Honors in the Major program.
He was early accepted into the Florida State University College of Medicine where he received his medical degree. Dr. Whitehead was involved with the Family Medicine Scholars Program as well as the Rural Medicine Interest Group.
After graduation from the College of Medicine, Dr. Whitehead completed his residency in Family Medicine with the TMH Family Medicine Residency Program where he served as Chief Resident. During this time he also become the only resident in the country to complete his senior year of residency while simultaneously completing an HIV Specialist fellowship program.
In his role as medical director for the Pensacola AIDS Healthcare Foundation, he cares for individuals living with HIV in the greater Pensacola area extending through the rural Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and Mississippi Gulf Coast. He also serves as the principal investigator in ongoing clinical trials in the Pensacola area. He is a clerkship faculty member for the Florida State University College of Medicine. He is employed as well with Baptist Medical Group Pensacola.
