  • Dr. Cobas is currently Professor, University of Miami’s Lennar School of Medicine and for the last seven years has served as Chief of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Services at Jackson South Medical Center, a multi-specialty hospital and Level II trauma center in Miami-Dade, Florida.
    Dr. Cobas obtained his MD degree in 1992 from Universidad Central de Venezuela, completed his Anesthesiology residency in 1999 at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and went on to train in Critical Care Medicine in Massachusetts General Hospital. He has been part of the University of Miami department of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative medicine for the last 19 years. He has extensively published and presented in the areas of Trauma Anesthesia and Critical Care at many national and international meetings.
    Outside the hospital, Dr. Cobas is recognized nationally as a Full Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology and Senior Editor for certification examinations. He’s very involved in advocacy for the specialty of Critical Care and is currently the President Elect of the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA) and the Anesthesiology Section of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), both international organizations with over a thousand members interested in the development and growth of the specialty.
