Summary

  • Dr. Michael Yim was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. As a graduate of Punahou School and the University of Washington, he went on to receive his medical
degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Yim earned membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, graduating in the top
tenth percentile of his class and was also awarded the Hawaii Lions Foundation Ophthalmology Award.

Dr. Yim completed his residency at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, which has been ranked as the #1 eye hospital and ophthalmology residency program in the country for the past fifteen years. After finishing residency, Dr. Yim completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he spent an additional year training in the surgical and medical management of glaucoma. Dr. Yim has a special interest in traditional and laser cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, pterygia and chalazion removal, general and diabetic eye exams, and glasses/contact lens fitting.

Being a local boy, Dr. Yim’s goal was to return to Hawaii to give back to the community that raised him. As a medical student, he volunteered for the Homeless Outreach and Medical Education Clinics providing health care for the under-served. During residency, he traveled to West Africa with the Himalayan Cataract Project to perform vision-restoring eye surgeries and to establish a sustainable eye care infrastructure in Ghana. For his community service efforts during residency, he received the Lee Family Community Service Award at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. During his free time, he enjoys playing football and basketball, hiking, and spending time with his family.
