- Dr. Michael Purkey specializes in advanced care for complex disorders of the nose, paranasal sinuses and skull base.
Dr. Purkey completed his undergraduate degree with high distinction in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan. He then received his M.D. degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Purkey remained at the University of Pennsylvania to complete his residency training in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and served as chief resident in his final year there. While in residency, Dr. Purkey developed a research collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania Department of Otorhinolaryngology and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to study the genetic causes of chronic sinusitis. He is an author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, serves as an invited reviewer for the top research journal in the field of rhinology, and has been invited to speak nationally on many topics related to the cause and treatment of chronic sinusitis and related disorders in the field of rhinology.
After finishing his residency, Dr. Purkey pursued additional subspecialty training and completed a fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery.
Dr. Purkey is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO-HNS) and the American Rhinologic Society (ARS). He sees patients in multiple locations throughout the Bay Area and is on staff at Stanford Hospital, El Camino Hospital Mountain View and Los Gatos, Waverley Surgical Center and San Ramon Regional Medical Center.
