Summary
- I am a board-certified psychiatrist and completed my medical training at the University of Western Ontario in London ON Canada and residency training at USC Los Angeles County General Hospital and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver BC Canada. I am a specialist in physician health having been in private practice half-time for 35 years and in academic work half-time. I moved to SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in 2008 to accept a full time academic position as Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Vice-Chair Education and Director of Residency Training. I currently work part-time there teaching and as medical student ombudsman. I have written or co-written nine books, mostly in physician health. The two most recent are "Becoming a Doctors' Doctor: A Memoir" and "Why Physicians Die by Suicide: Lessons Learned from Their Families and Others Who Cared."
