- Dr. Mrizek is a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice in the Washington DC area. His practice is focused on the general psychiatric treatment of mood, anxiety, depression, issues related to sex, self and interpersonal issues and more. Drawing from experience, he uses psychotherapy as a primary modality of treatment and pharmacotherapy when indicated.
From 2016 to 2017, Dr. Mrizek was the head of behavioral health for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, the premier traumatic brain injury institute in the military. From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Mrizek worked on the psychiatric consultation service and was the inpatient traumatic brain injury consultant at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Over the same time period, he began his studies in psychoanalysis at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis.
The broad range of cases treated on these services included complicated medical and psychiatric issues ranging from severe trauma related to war and traumatic accidents (including traumatic brain injuries from mild to severe), general psychiatric issues, delirium, psychosomatic manifestations, oncology patients, geriatric patients and patients in both the emergency room and ICU setting.
Prior to working with the military population, Dr. Mrizek did neuroscience research at the National Institute of Health, psychiatric residency training at The George Washington University, obtained his medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, his master’s degree in neurobiology at The University of Texas San Antonio and a bachelor degree in molecular and cellular biology from Texas A&M University.
