Summary
- I completed my undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Biology in 2003. I then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed my medical degree in 2007. That year, I began my general surgery training at East Carolina University/Vidant Medical Center Surgical Residency Program. I completed this program in 2013 and was chosen by my peers to serve as Administrative Chief Resident during the 2012-2013 academic year. In residency, during our dedicated research/education year, I chose to pursue and complete a Masters of Business Administration at East Carolina University. I served as a Minimally Invasive and Flexible Endoscopy fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Hazey and Vimal Narula from 2013 to 2014. This fellowship consisted of a clinical year that focused primarily on advanced therapeutic endoscopic techniques including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and minimally invasive hernia surgery.
Upon completion of my fellowship in 2014, I joined the faculty of The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, with my clinical practice largely located at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Hospital East. I have developed a clinical and research practice focused on advanced therapeutic endoscopy, surgical robotics, and surgical education. In November of 2015, I revitalized The Ohio State University General Surgery Robotics program which had laid dormant for two years with the departure of the last operating robotic general surgeon. In three short years, we have built a nationally recognized robotics program with a significant impact on the surgical residents and fellows. Our graduating residents complete between fifty to seventy robotics cases during their general surgery rotation at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center East, ranking them among the top in the country for graduating case volume.
