Dr. Michael Kitchell is a neurologist at McFarland Clinic in Ames, IA. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Neurology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1979 after graduating from the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in 1975. He served as president of the Iowa Medical Society in 2009-2010 and as board president of the McFarland Clinic from 1999-2016. Dr. Kitchell has published several articles in "Iowa Medicine" focusing on healthcare costs, rural health inequities, physician geographic practice cost indexes, quality and performance improvements, value-based payment systems, and healthcare reform. He has given presentations to the Senate Finance committee and the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Health on physician payment issues.
