Summary
- Michael F. Reed, M.D. is a Professor of Surgery at Penn State College of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Reed received an A.B., summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He served a surgical residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a thoracic surgical fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. During residency he was also a surgical oncology research fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, studying cell cycle control and chemotherapeutic response. Dr. Reed joined the faculty at the University of Cincinnati as a general thoracic surgeon with particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, airway diseases, and endoscopic interventions. In 2010 he moved to Penn State Hershey where he has a clinical practice that includes a high volume of robotic surgery and major open thoracic surgical operations, as well as bronchoscopic and endoscopic interventions. His research addresses outcomes from robotic surgery, advanced bronchoscopy, and educational methods for teaching novel surgical and endoscopic techniques. He is program director for the cardiothoracic surgery fellowship program and a faculty member for the general surgery residency, pulmonology and critical care fellowship, and interventional pulmonology fellowship.
