  • Michael Desjardins APRN PMHNP-BC is a board certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He has a strong commitment to implementation of evidenced-based care in substance abuse and mental health treatment. Michael worked for almost a decade at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute. Michael's experience includes administrator of psychiatric inpatient hospitals and specializing in design of detoxification protocols. He devoted over a year of his full-time professional time to a variety of research projects focusing on the neuroscience of addiction at the University of Utah Brain Institute, as a Co-Investigator in the Dr. Perry Renshaw Laboratory, a Spectroscopy Lab, utilizing advanced MRI techniques to study the effects drugs have on the brain and exploring novel treatments to aid in neural repair. Michael loves neuroscience of addiction and brain science and helping those suffering from addiction have the opportunity to recover. Michael’s rich experience and history includes working for residential treatment centers in New Hampshire, New York and Utah in the 1980’s and 1990’s and he has embraced the evolution of treatment services from the direct confrontational approach to the supportive and motivational strategies utilized by the best treatment centers today. He believes strongly in getting to the root of the underlying drivers of addiction & mental illness to support a full recovery. Michael believes in interdisciplinary collaboration and partnership with the patients and their families. He believes everyone has the ability to recover with the right tools from substance abuse and mental illness.
