- Dr. Najafi is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in diagnosis and management of retinal disorders. He completed his residency training at State University of New York where he served as chief resident of ophthalmology. He then completed a two-year fellowship in Medical and Surgical Disorders of Retina and Vitreous at the University of Minnesota. He is currently a surgical affiliate faculty member at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a staff surgeon at Surgisite Boston and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Besides his clinical practice, Dr. Najafi has a long career in research and academics. He has a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and has completed several research projects in basic, translational, and clinical research on a wide range of topics including inherited degenerative disorders of retina, mechanisms of retinal detachment, and novel techniques for secondary intraocular lens insertion. He has dozens of publications at esteemed medical journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Ophthalmology Retina and Journal of Vitreoretinal Diseases. He has presented his work at several international ophthalmology meetings including the American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and Biophysical Society. Dr. Najafi has won numerous clinical and research awards and actively participates in clinical trials. He is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
