Summary
- Dr. Tierney is the Inaugural Chair of the Dept of Clinical Research and Assistant Dean for Clinical Research and Public Health as well as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Creighton University School of Medicine. She is also the new Medical Director for Clinical Research, CHI Health and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the College of Public Health, Univ of Nebraska School of Medicine. Dr. Tierney was most recently the Med Dir of the HAI/AR Program (Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance) in the Epidemiology Unit of the Nebraska DPH. Dr. Tierney is BC in Internal Medicine (IM) and Infectious Diseases (ID) by ABIM. She received her MD from the Weill Cornell Medical College, and her training in IM and ID at the New York Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), respectively. She joined the staff in ID at MGH and became Fellowship Director there before leaving to be Chief of ID at the West Roxbury VAMC in Boston. Dr. Tierney also received a degree in health services administration/health policy from the Harvard School of Public Health and later become a senior medical reviewer for the FDA from 2002-08. She has published articles and abstracts on the prevention of antimicrobial resistant and healthcare associated infections, HIV therapy, eye and ear infections, and the efficacy of certain antibiotics. She is the Co-chairperson of the Policy Work-group of CORHA, the Council on Outbreak Response: Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistant Pathogens. Dr. Tierney is dedicated to patient safety and quality of care, medical education, and the importance of well designed clinical research. Other interests are health policy, control of healthcare associated infections including COVID-19, the education of the public on healthcare issues, and medical ethics.
