Dr. Wieder also serves as the Associate Program Director of the Residency Training Program. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Cooper Union. There he was also a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society. He went on to complete his medical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he received the Dean’s recognition award for exceptional academic and clinical performance. Dr. Wieder completed his internship year in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel prior to returning to the Bronx for his ophthalmology residency at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he served as chief resident in his final year and was the recipient of multiple awards including the MELIORA award for top scholastic achievement, the Montefiore Medical Center Outstanding House Officer Award for 2020 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He continued his training in vitreoretinal surgery for an additional 2 years at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai where he was honored to receive the resident award for outstanding teaching by a fellow. Dr. Wieder has presented at many national conferences and published in top ophthalmology journals including JAMA Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Retina. He has served as a reviewer for the European Journal of Ophthalmology and was a contributor and reviewer for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s board review question bank.
