Summary

  • I am a pediatrician and a researcher in health services, health policy, and population health who joined the Nemours Children’s Health enterprise leadership team in November 2023. As a clinician, I have focused during my career on providing longitudinal care for patient-families experiencing medical and social complexity. As a clinician-scientist, I have centered my attention on patterns of health and health care in order to identify inequities and illuminate opportunities to improve children’s well-being at the individual, family, and community level. I have received extramural funding as a principal investigator from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. I have authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications; on nearly half of these articles, I am pleased that scientists for whom I have served as a mentor have been the lead author. Outside of academia, from 2013-2015 I served as the Chief Medical Executive for the State of Michigan in the Department of Community Health. Also related to community engagement and community service, I served as the founding director of the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, from 2020-2023.
