Dr. Cunningham has extensive experience with research during his career. In medical school, he spent time at the National Eye Institute’s Laboratory of Ocular Immunology. During residency, he performed multiple research projects in the Ocular Surface Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Cunningham has a particular interest in clinical trials. He currently serves as the Research Director at Florida Retina Institute, and is the Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials including: Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR) Protocol W, Protocol AC, and Protocol AD; Clearside TOPAZ Study; Allergan Phase 3 Abicipar Pegol; Chengdu Study for Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
Doctor Cunningham holds a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Florida and earned his medical degree, Cum Laude with Honors in Research, from the University of Florida College of Medicine.
He completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine. Following residency training, Dr. Cunningham completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and diseases at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Cunningham enjoys traveling, biking, cardiovascular and weight training. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, children and friends.
Doctor Cunningham joined Florida Retina Institute in 2013.
