Overview of Dr. Burrus
Dr. Burrus is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who sees patients in North Austin, South Austin, and Round Rock. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the knee and shoulder. Additionally, he has a special interest in complex knee and shoulder reconstructions and shoulder replacements.
A native of Southeast Texas, Dr. Burrus attended Washington and Lee University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in Biology, magna cum laude, and played varsity soccer. During medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia where he scored in the 100th percentile nationally for his in-training exam and served as Administrative Chief Resident. Following residency, he completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan under numerous nationally and internationally recognized surgeons and received additional training in hip arthroscopy. For Part I Examination of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (certifying examination), Dr. Burrus scored in the 95th percentile nationwide.
Throughout his training, Dr. Burrus has worked with several high school and NCAA Division I athletic programs (University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University). In addition, he formerly assisted with the Under 18 USA Hockey National Team Development Program and provided sideline coverage for the International Champions Cup. He has written over 45 research articles along with 12 book chapters, and been involved in over 65 research presentations.
In his free time, Dr. Burrus enjoys golf, fly fishing, bird hunting, snow skiing, and spending time with his wife and 4 kids.
