- Mary Zupanc, MD, is a child neurologist based in Madison, WI, with subspecialty expertise in epilepsy. She completed her medical education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 1979, followed by pediatric residencies at the University of Washington and Los Angeles County-Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a child neurology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Zupanc has been instrumental in the development of pediatric epilepsy centers at the Mayo Clinic, Columbia University, Medical College of Wisconsin, and CHOC Children's Hospital of Orange County/University of California-Irvine, where she was the Co-Medical Director of the CHOC Neuroscience Institute. Currently, she is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Neurology, Division of Pediatric Neurology. Her research includes the study of infantile spasms (efficacy of treatment with ACTH and other medications with respect to seizures and developmental outcomes); epilepsy surgery (selection of appropriate epilepsy surgery candidates; epilepsy surgery evaluation; epilepsy surgery outcomes); and the efficacy of felbamate in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Dr. Zupanc has been active in the Child Neurology Society and the American Epilepsy Society, having served on various committees. She is also involved in the Child Neurology Foundation and is currently serving on its board of directors. She has been recognized as one of America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly and contributed significantly to the understanding of child neurology and epilepsy through her research and clinical trials.
