- Martin Miguel I. Amor, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist specializing in cardiovascular critical care. After a three-year stint as a medical educator in the Philippines, he pursued Internal Medicine residency and eventually became Chief Medical Resident at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ in 2015. He then completed his General Cardiology fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY in 2018, and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY in 2019. In recognition for his work as an outstanding clinician, scholar, mentor, teacher and role model, Dr. Amor was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during critical care medicine fellowship, being the first trainee from his program to gain this distinction. He then served at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL as a critical care cardiologist for 3 years.
A prolific researcher and academician, Dr. Amor has published multiple book chapters, case reports and research projects, which have been presented at regional, national and international conferences in the fields of internal medicine, neurology, cardiology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Amor came to Staten Island in 2022 with the objective of pioneering Cardiovascular Critical Care as a novel cardiac subspecialty. He joins the SIUH Department of Cardiology in responding to the increased acuity and medical complexity of patients receiving critical care at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
Dr. Amor’s clinical practice and research goals are focused on early recognition and treatment of cardiogenic shock, with emphasis on temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and left ventricular unloading. His other interests include acute renal replacement therapies in the CCU, MCS for right ventricular failure, and critical care management following transcatheter structural interventions (TAVR, Mitra-Clip). He is also actively involved in advancing medical education in cardiovascular critical care.
