Summary
- Dr. Mark Talbert grew up in a small town in West Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree as well as his Medical Doctorate from Marshall University. Shortly after medical school, Dr. Talbert was commissioned captain with the United States Army Reserves as a trauma and general surgeon. After finishing his general surgery residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, Dr. Talbert became attending surgeon at the VA medical center where he also served as chief of general surgery. Serving our Veterans provided Dr. Talbert with a rewarding and unique experience. After 3 years of service at the VA, he and his family took a 1-year sabbatical to Medellin, Colombia so that he could better learn Spanish and the healthcare system. In 2008, he was deployed to Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo during that country's independence. In 2011, he was deployed to FOB Salerno in Eastern Afghanistan where he performed life saving operations on US and Afghan military as well as local Afghan civilians. Because of his accomplishments there, he was awarded a congressional humanitarian award. His final deployment was to Honduras where he provided training and supplies to the local surgeons. He was honorably discharged as Lieutenant Colonel in 2014 after 15 years of service. Dr. Talbert performs the spectrum of general surgery procedures including advanced laparoscopy. He has a special interest and laparoscopic colon resections, also thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He has been serving Brevard County since July 2008. Dr. Talbert lives in Melbourne with his wife and 2 sons.
