- Mark Russo MD MPH FAASLD, FACG AGAF is Medical Director of Liver Transplantation, Chief, Division of Hepatology, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center-Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. He serves as program director for the advanced hepatology fellowship. He graduated from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology fellowship at The University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. He is a fellow in the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology and serves on the editorial board for Expert Reviews in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Journal of Clinical Medicine. He has served on numerous national committees for the AGA, ACG, AST, AASLD and UNOS. Dr. Russo has been an invited lecturer to the AGA, ACG, AASLD as well as the AASLD Transplant Hepatology board review course and William M Steinberg Board Review and Best Practices course. He is leading the effort of the AASLD workforce committee to determine the demand for hepatologists in the future. He has been the PI on dozens of clinical trials in hepatitis C, cirrhosis and other liver diseases. Dr. Russo has been selected as to the Best Doctors in American for 10 consecutive years, which represents the top 5% of physicians in the U.S. He has more than 100 publications and a dozen book chapters related to liver diseases and transplantation.
