- Mark Greenwald, MD, is a respected ophthalmologist specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Educated at Harvard Medical School and trained in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Chicago, and in pediatric ophthalmology at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Having previously served on the faculty at Northwestern University Medical School and the University of Washington School of Medicine, he was Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Chicago from 2004 through 2019, and Section Chief from 2008 through 2015. Dr. Greenwald has special interest and expertise in eye trauma, particularly as related to child abuse. He has been recognized as an inspiring teacher and diligent clinical investigator with numerous publications including many original articles in leading medical journals, and several book chapters. His accomplishments have earned him multiple honors and awards, including being repeatedly listed among America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly, and Senior Honor Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Greenwald retired from full-time academic practice in 2019, but remains affiliated with the University of Chicago, and since 2023 is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Colorado and attending ophthalmologist with Denver Health Medical Center and Children's Hospital Colorado.
