Summary
- I received my MD degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006. I then completed a residency in Pediatrics and a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Richmond. I remained at CHoR as a Clinical Assistant Professor and was transitioned to Assistant Professor with joint appointment with VCU School of Medicine and CHoR. I am board certified in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
My research focus is sepsis and infections in the neonate. Most recently, I served as the sub-PI for a trial evaluating biomarkers in neonatal sepsis, and the PI for a retrospective review of blind-BAL outcomes.
I am heavily involved with quality improvement and informatics. I founded and chair the neonatal antibiotic stewardship program. I have created numerous clinical guidelines including the education and implementation of a protected broncho-alveolar sampling technique in extremely preterm neonates. I led CHoR’s and CJW’s NICU to obtain Vermont Oxford Network’s “Center of Excellence” designation. As the NICU IT specialty champion, I provide clinical perspective to IT professionals regarding the EHR build and functionality, and as an Epic Physician Builder, I update and create changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality.
As an entrustable professional activities coach, I coach 18-20 medical students per year in obtaining professional and educational goals. Additionally, I actively engage learners in bedside teaching and didactics inside and outside of the department.
