  • Dr. Mandie Tibball Svatek is a native of San Antonio and graduated from Texas A&M University competing in swimming on the Division I level. As a Pediatric Hospitalist, she stayed on as faculty at UT Southwestern for two years then UT Houston Memorial Hermann for an additional three years while her husband, who is also a UT Health Academician, completed his fellowship in Urologic Oncology at MD Anderson. She returned to San Antonio in 2010 to continue her venture in academic medicine and to raise her three active children. When not practicing medicine, her family enjoys outdoor hiking, long distance running, other sports activities and swimming.

    Recently, with the San Antonio Metro Health District, she was awarded $751,00 to be the prinicipal investigator for a 2 year pilot home care program for high risk children with asthma. She Chairs the South Texas Asthma Coalition and is a Board Member of Voices for Children – two organizations that advocate on behalf of children. Over the past three years, she has led an interactive longintudinal quality improvement curriculum for residents. She also leads in a community linked asthma program with University Hospital (UH) for more streamlined care for children with asthma. She has contributed to developing pediatric protocols and maintains a close relationship with UH informatics in improving the EMR for physician documentation and order development. She continues to serve as a small group facilitator and contributor in medical school curriculum. Her vision is to improve care for children with asthma across the community of San Antonio.
