- Dr. Shapiro maintains a full time practice in neurointerventional radiology / interventional neuroradiology at The Bernard and Irene Schwartz Interventional Neuroradiology section of the NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue HHC.
Interventional neuroradiology is a minimally invasive specialty concerned with diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular and spinal vascular conditions such as:
- Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)
- Brain Aneurysm (coiling, flow diversion, etc.)
- Pulsatile Tinnitus / Vascular Tinnitus
- Brain Dural Fistula
- Acute Stroke (thrombectomy/thrombolysis)
- Cerebrovascular Occlusive Disease (Carotid Stenosis, Intracranial Stenosis)
- Preoperative Tumor Embolization
- WADA activation testing
The Neurointerventional Radiology Section and its colleagues, and Dr. Shapiro in particular, have extensive experience in diagnosis and treatment of spinal vascular conditions, such as:
- Spinal Dural Fistula
- Spinal Pial Fistula
- Spinal AVM
- Spinal Aneurysm
- nonvascular conditions such as Vertebral Body Compression Fractures
