  • Dr. Shapiro maintains a full time practice in neurointerventional radiology / interventional neuroradiology at The Bernard and Irene Schwartz Interventional Neuroradiology section of the NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue HHC.

    Interventional neuroradiology is a minimally invasive specialty concerned with diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular and spinal vascular conditions such as:

    - Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)
    - Brain Aneurysm (coiling, flow diversion, etc.)
    - Pulsatile Tinnitus / Vascular Tinnitus
    - Brain Dural Fistula
    - Acute Stroke (thrombectomy/thrombolysis)
    - Cerebrovascular Occlusive Disease (Carotid Stenosis, Intracranial Stenosis)
    - Preoperative Tumor Embolization
    - WADA activation testing

    The Neurointerventional Radiology Section and its colleagues, and Dr. Shapiro in particular, have extensive experience in diagnosis and treatment of spinal vascular conditions, such as:

    - Spinal Dural Fistula
    - Spinal Pial Fistula
    - Spinal AVM
    - Spinal Aneurysm

    - nonvascular conditions such as Vertebral Body Compression Fractures

    All members of the section have extensive experience is Diagnostic Cerebral and Spinal angiography. Dr. Shapiro holds appointments in the departments of Radiology and Neurology.
