Summary

  • Director Ramos was born and raised in the Metropolitan San Juan area of Puerto Rico and attended the University of Puerto Rico before joining the US Navy in 1974. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps, after twenty-six years of service. Fifteen of those years included experiences in aviation medicine, air evacuation specialist/search and rescue, and Advanced Hospital Corps School (independent duty corpsman (IDC)). He spent three years on board the USS Tattnall, DDG-19 before he was selected to participate in the George Washington University PA Program, graduating in 1991. He completed a Master of Science in Medical Science with an emphasis in Rural Primary Care from the Alderson-Broaddus College in 1997. His clinical experiences included emergency medicine, primary care, pediatrics, OB/Gyn, occupational health, and dermatology. In 1998 he began lecturing on a part-time basis to PA students at the Anne Arundel Community College PA Program, in Arnold, Maryland. He eventually became a full-time assistant professor for the program and in 2002 became its program director. He transitioned to Pittsburgh, PA, to work as Chatham University’s PA Program Director and associate professor from 2007 - 2013, On December of 2013, he became a faculty member of the Nova Southeastern University's PA Program in Jacksonville, FL. He has participated in several medical missions in Haiti, Panamá, and the República Dominicana. Director Ramos has been involved in lobbying for the Physician Assistant profession in Puerto Rico since he became a PA in 1991. Since July 1st of 2019, he has worked as the founding Program Director of the San Juan Bautista Medical School Physician Assistant Program. His hobbies include painting, kayaking, watching TV and movies, genealogy, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
