  • Dr. Lorenzo Cervantes is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained specialist in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.

    Dr. Cervantes received his Medical Degree, cum laude, from the Downstate Medical Center – College of Medicine at the State University of New York in Brooklyn, where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the North Shore/LIJ Health System in Great Neck, New York, where he also served as Chief Resident. Prior to moving to Connecticut, he completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

    His clinical practice interests include the management of corneal diseases that affect vision, corneal dystrophies (including Fuchs’ corneal dystrophy), small incision cataract surgery, anterior segment reconstruction (including sutured intraocular lenses), as well as laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), phakic intraocular lens implantation (Visian ICL), and the management of keratoconus (including collagen cross linking and INTACS). He is an accomplished surgeon with experience in the most advanced corneal transplant procedures, including Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty [DMEK], Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty [DSEK], deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty [DALK], and the Boston keratoprosthesis). Dr. Cervantes was the first surgeon to successfully perform DMEK for the treatment of corneal edema and Fuchs’ dystrophy in Connecticut.
