Summary
- Dr. Folio is the lead radiologist for Computerized Tomography at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD.
He is also Clinical Professor of Radiology, George Washington University Hospital.
His career started as radiologic technologist, including Hospital of University of Pennsylvania as a CT technologist on a research scanner.
Following medical school his radiology residency was completed as he started his career in the US Air Force, retiring as a Colonel in July 2009.
He deployed twice to Iraq while in the military, with several other deployments to the Middle East. His most recent assignments included science and technology at the pentagon, a radiologist at Walter Reed Medical Center and an associate professor at the Uniformed Services University.
He earned 3 Masters Degrees including clinical Radiology, Aeronautical Sciences; and a Masters in Public Health from UC Berkeley.
Dr. Folio has four medical specialties, has been awarded Fellow of two National Medical Colleges, to include American Osteopathic College of Radiology that awarded him the Trennery Medal, one of the college’s highest honors.
Dr. Folio published 5 medical textbooks, including “Combat Radiology” and “Chest Imaging” and has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals, a patent on a combined CT Window Level and a patent on a portable X-ray imaging device; both ideas were born from his experience taking care of combat casualties in Iraq.
