Summary

  • After graduating from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1978 Dr. Probes came to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he completed his psychiatry residency through both Pine Rest Christian Hospital and Michigan State University. Following residency training Dr. Probes worked for two years as a staff psychiatrist at Pine Rest, then he set up his own private practice. Since 2009 Dr. Probes has served as a staff psychiatrist at the Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services Traverse City Clinic. He also works for the Medicine Lodge Behavioral Health Services of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians in Peshawbestown.

    While Dr. Probes has dedicated most of his career to private office practice, he has consulted part time with many organizations and types of health care settings including general hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, Community Mental Health Clinics, jails and prisons, geriatric services, a brain injury clinic and many others. He speaks several foreign languages, including Russian and Spanish.

    Dr. Probes performs psychiatric evaluations and treatment with psychotropic medications such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antianxiety medications and antipsychotic medications.

    Dr. Probes diagnoses and treats depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
