Summary
- Dr. Klein received his undergraduate degree from MIT. where he worked closely with senior chemistry faculty on curriculum reform while pursuing research in theoretical chemistry. On graduating, he was awarded a prize as one the top two chemistry majors graduating from MIT that year. Dr. Klein subsequently entered Johns Hopkins in a joint M.D.-Ph.D. program. While at Hopkins, he was involved in several special projects with senior Hopkins faculty. He was elected to the AOA medical honorary society. After completing two years of residency training at Strong Memorial, Dr. Klein returned to Johns Hopkins as one of the first Henry J. Kaiser Foundation Fellows in Internal Medicine in the United States. Following fellowship training, Dr. Klein joined the full-time medical faculty at Johns Hopkins in the General Internal Medicine Division. In that capacity he did a mixture of clinical, teaching, and research work. He published 39 papers and abstracts and served as Director of the General Medicine Fellowship Training Program and Student Longitudinal Clinic. After spending 4 years on the full time Hopkins faculty, Dr. Klein decided to concentrate on direct patient care. As a result, he moved to Washington D.C. and joined Foxhall Internists. Dr. Klein continues to hold a faculty appointment at Johns Hopkins, as well as at Georgetown University. Since arriving in DC, Dr. Klein has been active in several medical organizations. He is a former president of the D.C. Society of Internal Medicine (ASIM) and former Governor of the D.C. chapter of the American College of Physicians. He has served on various national medical committees, including chairing the ASIM National Laboratory Committee. Currently he chairs the DC ACP Health & Public Policy and Nominations Committees. He also serves on the DC ACP Governor's Advisory Council and Awards Committee. At Foxhall Internists he is Laboratory Director in addition to providing primary medical care.
