- Laurin (Craig) Bellg is a critical care specialist and author living in Appleton, WI with her husband and two teenage daughters. She received her medical degree from the University of Tennessee (Memphis) in 1996, completed an internal medicine residency at Medical College of Wisconsin and a critical care fellowship at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. She has been in practice 19 years as an intensivist, working in medical, trauma, neuro, surgical and cardiac ICUs. She specializes in critical care medicine and also participates in healthcare administration, serving as the medical director for her organization's ICUs and chair of the department of medicine for several years. She is also author of an award-winning book (Near Death in the ICU), appearing on the Today Show and speaking at conferences on how being able to talk with patients about their anomalous experiences during states of near-death and trauma is part of good patient care. She has published short stories and essays in literary journals and is an MFA candidate in the low-residency creative writing program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is currently writing a novel for her MFA thesis set in a fictional southern town.
