- Dr. Berkow has been a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida since 2016 and currently serves as the Chief of the Division of Neuroanesthesiology. She also serves as the Director of Supplies and Equipment and the Co-chair of the UF Shands Sustainability Committee. Prior to joining the Gator Nation, she worked at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland from 2000-2016, where she served as an Associate Professor and Associate Chief for the Division of Neuroanesthesia. While working at Johns Hopkins, she also served as Assistant Residency Director, and Director of Airway Education.
Dr. Berkow is a Past President of the Society for Airway Management and serves on their Executive Committee. She is also a board member of the Airway Safety Movement and the co-chair of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s Unplanned Extubation Workgroup.
She has written numerous papers on airway management and neuroanesthesia and is a member of many professional societies. In 2015, she was presented the Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment Physician for Environmental Health Award.
Dr. Berkow earned her Bachelor’s at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and her medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. She completed her surgical residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. She also completed an anesthesia residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and earned a Business of Medicine Graduate Certificate from The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
